Day 92: Corn Casserole

I think I may have found the worst dish in history. I found it in a Walmart cookbook. It is full of recipes submitted by employees. Some of them are pretty good, not this one. I am only sharing the recipe so if you see it anywhere else you can run away--fast!! Never have I had a food with worse texture. I hate to be gross, but it was like eating corn that had been swallowed whole and then upchucked. My stomach is churning just thinking about it. The picture in the book looked good. Let that be a lesson to us all, looks are deceiving!

Corn Casserole
10" dutch oven
2 (10 oz.) pkg . frozen corn
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
3/4 cup finely crushed saltines
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
6 Tbs. butter, cut up
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 cups milk
1 Tbs. sugar
1/4 tsp. paprika
Layer half of the corn in your DO. Sprinkle with half of the salt and pepper. Top with half of the saltines. Sprinkle with half of the cheese. Dot with half of the butter. Repeat layers.
In a small bowl stir together the egg, milk, and sugar. Pour over the layers. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with paprika and bake 15-30 minutes longer or until puffed around the edges and light brown. I used 8 coals on the bottom and 12 on top. Let stand 10 minutes. Serves 8.
The Finished Product
I was going to take a pic of it on a plate, but really, whats the use. This is bad enough.
The Review
Honestly, if you make this, then you deserve what you get, which will be sick! By the time I got to the second bite I wanted to upchuck my upchucked corn. I think this is the first time ever that the one bite rule has applied to me. I took one bite, said "No thank you" and covered it with my napkin. I couldn't even stand to look at it. The cracker crumbs were like soggy bread combined with the chunky corn. I couldn't gag it down. Since not even the cat would eat this, it gets a big, fat F, circled 3 times in red ink!! Are you getting the feeling I hated this? I really am trying to hold back my feelings for this one. Barf!!
